Flirty Skirts Over 50? Absolutely!
The fashion pundits predicted women would be wearing longer dresses and skirts this season. I’ve kept my eyes peeled, but haven’t seen any more long hemlines this season than other season. Still, I love the longer hemlines. I especially love the flow of the longer skirt in layers of sheer or light-weight summer cottons like the Free People Morning Glory Maxi Skirt ($128) above. The fashion editors call such skirts "flirty." Can over 50 women pull off "flirty skirts"? I think so. Longer skirts like the one above are simply romantic and my over 50 girlfriends and I still have plenty of romance left in us. Don't you?
Below are some of my favorite "flirty skirt" styles. While long summer dresses have the advantage of creating a continuous long line (very slimming), you can achieve the same slimming silhouette by pairing a longer skirt with a top that matches the skirt’s dominant color. Here's a few skirts from Jones New York.
Jones New York Tie Dyed Pleated Skirt ($129)
Jones New York Water Color Pleated Flare Skirt ($129)
Jones New York Bias Cut Asymmetric Double Layer Full Skirt, ($99)
Here's a few designer skirts from Shopbop...
BB Dakota Janine Tiered Long Skirt ($90.00)
Mara Hoffman Fishtail Long Skirt ($253.40)
Madewell Draped Military Skirt ($158.00)
Foley + Corinna Tulip Print Rambler Skirt ($203.00)
These next two skirts don't really qualify as "flirty," but they're examples of the different fabric textures and colors that designers are using this summer.
Dolce Vita Gwen Skirt ($154.00)
Rebecca Taylor Pin Dot Skirt ($245.00)
