Spring 2011: Dare to Wear Bold Colored Pants
A few days ago, I snapped this photo of my tennis league coordinator. (I wish I could have snapped her lovely 50+ face, but she was wearing a sweater with the tennis club’s logo and I was nervous about posting that.)(Also, sorry about the blurriness!) I love her coral pants and matching flats! If I were asked to sum up spring/summer 2011 fashion in one word, I would say: “Color.” Given two words, I’d say: “Extreme Colors.” That’s because this season’s trendy colors cover the full range from quiet shades like white and the palest grays and browns (nude and sand) to billboard-announcing red, orange, yellow, emerald, purple and cobalt blue. For women over 50, long pants and Capris in a bold color is a great way to energize your spring and summer look. Below are some colorful pairs of pants, ranging in price from modest to designer. Of all the bright colors, coral is hands-down the hottest one for pants online right now.
In terms of styling, the 2011 trend is blocks of color. For example, wearing a yellow top with an emerald bottom or vice versa is in vogue. Personally, that's a little too much color for me. For my colorful bottoms (especially yellow or coral), I'll probably wear a solid white top. A horizontal striped top is another possibility. I'd avoid a vertical striped top, though, unless you're a fan of Palm Beach styling.
